DELAWARE WATER GAP NATIONAL RECREATION AREA.

During my stay at Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania I was able to travel out to the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

*The details mentioned below are given by Wikipedia.

“The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, administered by the National Park Service, preserves almost 70,000 acres (28,000 ha) of land along the Delaware River‘s New Jersey and Pennsylvania shores, stretching from the Delaware Water Gap northward almost to the New York state line. Middle Delaware National Scenic River is a designated 40-mile (64 km) section of the river entirely within the recreation area.”

And of course somewhere in the middle of all this grass, trees and nature, (and  a highway.) I was with my camera taking photos once again. I don’t get the opportunity to photograph the outdoors often, so I thought this time around to give it a try and explore another aspect of photography.

It was an adventure for me getting around the area, lots of trails and hills to navigate through. But I did manage to get around, plus it helps to drag a few friends along for help as well. But as for my first adventure in outdoor photography, I think that it went o-kay.

Then again I m my own worse critic. But you be the judge, below are some of the photos that I have taken.

The photo below reminds me of Windows XP pc wallpaper .

The photo below is a panoramic photo. Click on photo for full view.

The photo below is a close up of some of the rocks with water running over it.

If I am able to get back out to the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area again I would definitely take more photographs of the location. For it seems that the area has so much more worth exploring.

It is a good venture to explore, for anyone willing and looking to do some outdoor photography.

SUPER MOON LIGHTS UP THE NIGHT SKY.

This past weekend I have gone away to Tobyhanna, PA for  little rest and relaxation.

Over the weekend the “Super Moon” was scheduled to appear during my weekend stay in Pennsylvania. So of course I took the opportunity to go photograph the moon. This particular moon rise was to have a view that seems closer to the Earth than other times in the past, hence the term “Super Moon.” As well due to the extreme brightness of this particular moon rise, you can nearly make out any of the lunar craters and you would normally see during a moon rise in the night sky.

Granted the peak time to view the event was at 11:30 p.m. that Saturday night, but I was subjected to heavy cloud cover in the night sky, and was forced to wait until the clouds passed by. That had taken about an hour for the cloud cover to pass. Plus as well it was slightly raining.

But it did all pass, and I was able to get in a few shots of a very bright moon in the night sky that lit up the sky for the night. Some of the photos were taken in color and in black in white. But it did make for some good, interesting photos.

Below are some of the photos that I have taken of the event.

It has been a while since I have taken photos of the moon, or have done any photography for that matter. But it did feel good to be back out once again doing what I enjoy, capturing a moment in time.

9/11: TEN YEARS LATER.

For this photography post I just could not pass up doing one on the subject of 9/11/, with the ten-year anniversary coming up. We all know the story and history about it, so there is really no need to explain what had happen ten years ago. As a native New Yorker everything that I had known about the World Trade Center towers in lower Manhattan changed for me.

Granted if you never lived in New York, as many times as it could be told, or explained to you about that one particular day in September. You could never fully understand it.

You just have to have been there on that day when it happened.

“Ground Zero” as it is mostly called nowadays is being rebuilt of course. But I often find myself saying in my mind ” I remember when this was here.” or ” I use to shop in the underground plaza underneath the towers before they came down.” And so on.

But with a new World Trade Center being build now. I just wanted to take a moment to show all the world what it looks like now, and show some of the areas I have seen that normally you don’t see on television.

I purposely taken the photos in black and white for it is still a somber day to many people that were effected by it, and the lack of color reflects that. And as well the most powerful to convey the images.

So without any further chatter, I present.

9/11: TEN YEARS LATER.

If you are wondering what the above image is, see the next photo below.

The photo above is from the old World Trade Center.

THE WEST INDIAN DAY PARADE OF 2011.

So for the second year in a row I had thought to cover the West Indian Day Parade of 2011. It is an event that I do enjoy going to every year. The event is held every Labor Day holiday weekend, and I guess you can say that it’s one of the major events leading to the end of the summer season.

The weather for yesterday’s event was somewhat not the perfect day, for at one point the rain did come by and there was a slight downpour of rain. But it was nothing more than just a passing shower. Lots of people were at the event along with crowds of people of West Indian culture that came to celebrate the day.

Lots of parade floats, good food and West Indian music did fill the event and made it an enjoyable moment for those that were there. Below are some of my photos of the event.

The photo above was taken across the street from the Brooklyn Museum located on eastern parkway in Brooklyn, New York City. It gives you somewhat of an idea of the crowd that was at the event.

A close up photo of one of the many party goers on top of one of the many trucks that were at the event.

This photo above gives you an idea of the truck that they was on.

One of the many floats passing by during the event.

And of course… What’s a parade without people enjoying the event and many others in colorful costumes.

Now the next photo below has a funny story to it.

It seems that a few of the female costumed party goes jokingly rushed up to and surrounded a NYPD police officer (that you can’t see within the photo…) And let’s just say that they put him in a “compromising position.” Another NYPD police officer (seen above) rushed up to the small crowed but not to help the other officer, but only to take an embarrassing photo of him. And then walk away afterwards.

Needless to say that everyone did get a good laugh out of that moment.

And this concludes my photography post of the West Indian Day Parade of 2011. If you had missed the event, may this be the next way to have seen it.

OVERHEAD FLY BY AND LANDING.

The other day I was out near La Guardia Airport (LGA) in Queens New York for a work assignment. While on my way to work I had noticed that an airplane was about to land at La Guardia airport. This airplane like the others that flown my way was coming in very low for its landing.

The weather was clear that day so I thought that it was odd for them to come in so low, but it did make for some great videos to be filmed.

If you enjoy flying or airplanes in general, then you might like what I have filmed. I have to admit that a few times I thought the airplanes were going to crash, for they were coming in very close. But I am glad that did not happen.

By the way… You might have noticed or heard in video number one a voice saying “bitch.” The back story to that is the following.

While filming the first video, after the airplane flew past I said out loud. “Son of a bitch!” But it seems that the audio only picked up the word “bitch.” It might have been with all the noise coming from the airplanes jet engines that it drowned out the bulk of my comment.

Enjoy the videos. ;-)

MANHATTANHENGE

If you are wondering what exactly is “Manhattanhenge.” Here is the meaning via Wikipedia.

Manhattanhenge – sometimes referred to as the Manhattan Solstice – is a semiannual occurrence in which the setting sun aligns with the east–west streets of the main street grid in the borough of Manhattan in New York City. The term is derived from Stonehenge, at which the sun aligns with the stones on the solstices. It was popularized in 2002 by Neil deGrasse Tyson, an astrophysicist at the American Museum of Natural History.

Well tonight I was able to take photos of the event. I did have fun running into the city to do so, not to mention the fact that I had to get onto the Park Avenue bridge in order to take these photos. Granted… The bridge is NOT to be used by people to walk on. But I did get on so I can get what I think are some very good photos of the event.

Below are some of the photos that I have taken.

Now I know that I seem pretty high up over 42nd Street. But like I mentioned before I was on the Park Avenue bridge in order to take these photos. Granted… The bridge is not to be used by people to walk on, only for general traffic. The next set of photos will give you an idea as to where I was while taking these shots.

Yes… There was a crowd for the event. :-)

This photo above was taken after the crowd had left the area.

And the photo below is of the bridge at street level.

Yea… One wrong step to far back and I would have gotten hit by a passing taxi. But it was worth it. “The things I do for photography.” You just have to love doing such things just to get the perfect shot at times. But I will say that it was worth doing so.

SUNSET ON A STREET CORNER.

The following two photographs were taken an hour before the Macy’s fourth of July fireworks were to start. These two photos were taken on the corner of twenty-fourth street and twelve avenue in Manhattan, New York. At the peak moment of sunset. The colors were just so bright and vibrant that I just had to take these two photos.

THE MACY’S FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS OF JULY 4, 2011.

Here are some of the photos that I have taken of the Macy’s fourth of July fireworks. It was somewhat of a challenge to take these photos for the timing had to be perfect, plus as well not to mention the very large crowd that was their as well. But I did manage to take a grand total of 1,086 photos of the event. (Thank God for a digital camera, for that would have been a lot of film used. :-) ) Out of the many photos taken of the event, I picked the photos I liked the most.

Enjoy the fireworks display.

And this concludes my photographs of the Macy’s fourth of July fireworks. If you was not able to make the event, then I hope that these photos become the next best thing to being there for the display.

I would like to also take a moment to thank a friend of mines Randy, for giving me a hand with all the camera equipment that I was lugging around with me last night. Plus not to mention the fact that once I was done with the event and started to pack, I thought that I had lost a “modestly priced” piece of camera gear, and once I noticed that I did so I started to panic. But with Randy’s help and the help of another stranger who I have no idea who they was. They both found it within a very short amount of time that I had thought and felt for a moment that was taking forever, Randy quickly moved though the very large crowd to retrieve it and bring it back to me.

After recovering the piece of camera equipment I did thank him and I wanted to thank the woman as well, but she had vanished into the crowd, and was never seen again. Who says New Yorker”s aren’t nice people!?!? I guess this proves them wrong. ;-)

“PROJECT LIBERTY” BECOMES “NIGHTFALL.”

Now this is an interesting photography story I think. And one that you might like.

For some time I wanted to do a photography post for the fourth of July holiday. So I came up with an idea and concept, and gave it the code name “Project Liberty.”

Project Liberty was to be a series of photographs of the Statue of Liberty in New York harbor during a sunset.

Now for the past few days and weeks the sunsets in New York city have been quite spectacular, and I thought that for “Project Liberty” taking photos of the Statue of Liberty during one of these spectacular sunsets would have been a great idea for a fourth of July photography post.

If you follow me on Twitter at.: http://twitter.com/LUIS_CASTRO_NYC  You will notice from time to time that I tweet updates on current photography projects that I am working on for my blog. Here is the time line from my Twitter data stream about “Project Liberty.” (See below.)

Soon I will start my final prep work for my Statue of Liberty sunset #photo session. I hope to get some good shots.

I have my #photography gear ready, now I just have to walk to the water front & find a good location.

I found a good spot for my “Liberty” #photo shoot. Hello Miss Liberty smile, 4 the camera please. http://twitpic.com/5k9zk3

(Since I had gotten to my location early I tweeted a few random photos and thoughts as well, for I did have some time to kill.) My next tweet is below.

Me with my gear waiting for the perfect shot.

(Of course I just pulled out my BlackBerry and snapped this photo of me with my gear. And I posted it to my Twitter account. And actually… I like this photo.)

Then there was the “random thought” tweet that I posted next, which was…

OMG!!! This little kid is playing the piano like fucking Mozart!!! http://twitpic.com/5kb484

And let me tell you! The girl was playing Mozart! She was great!

Shortly after my last tweet above. It was time to start taking photos for “Project Liberty.”

After an hour of taking photos I tweeted the following two updates.

I hate to say this… But photo shoot “Project Liberty” has taken another form. Yea… Lady Liberty went mustang on me. #TangoUniform

If you was ever in the military you know what #TangoUniform means. If not… Wiki or Google it. :-)

(To prevent you “the reader of this post” from leaving my post early and going to Wikipedia or Google, here is the definition of “Tango Uniform.”)

List of U.S. government and military acronyms

T – TU – Tits Up (Dead, Inoperable), a.k.a. “tango uniform

Yes… You guess right folks! My photography project was becoming a major fuck up! What makes this really bad, was the fact that it was happening right in the middle of my photo session! Usually what I do when it comes to photography is after concept, and planning. I would take as many photos I can of the subject and then once I am home pick the best ones to post on my blog.

But this time, each and every photo I took just did not seem right to me. For I felt that the lighting was “off set” and the sunset was not that spectacular I thought as well. Plus I had only a limited window of time to take these series of photos. Yea… “Project Liberty” was becoming “dead and Inoperable” right before my very eyes. For I really wanted this to be my fourth of July holiday post.

In my frustration I turned my camera and took the following photo of lower Manhattan.

After reviewing the above photo (got to love a digital camera for being able to do such a thing.) I said to myself. “Oh… I like this, I really, really like this!”

So “Project Liberty” very quickly became “Nightfall.” And I started taking photos like a bat out of hell for the sun was starting to set. But during that time I was able to play around with my camera settings and got what I had thought were some great photos. Unlike the “Liberty” photos I was just not happy with each picture I took.

For the record… I came up with the name “Nightfall” only after taking some time to think about it once I had gotten home to review my work. For keeping the name “Project Liberty” did not seem right to me. So without any further mention I present to you “Nightfall.”

By the way… If you are wondering will I ever do a photography post called “Project Liberty?” My answer is… “Yes.” For the concept of Project Liberty being a series of photographs of the Statue of Liberty in New York harbor during a sunset, is just way too good to pass up I think. So some time down the line I will post “Project Liberty” at a later date.

But for now I present to you….. (Have a happy Fourth of July holiday by the way.)

NIGHTFALL

For the next photo below, it would be best if you clicked on it to see the best view of the photo.

The same goes as well for the photo below too.

THE NEW YORK CITY GAY PRIDE PARADE OF 2011.

Now I have to admit that I almost did not go to the parade this year. reason being was that when I covered the event last year I found it do be somewhat of  a problem doing so. But since New York state approved same-sex marriage just two days before the event. I thought it was best to give it another try. You can read about the new same-sex marriage law at the following post.

http://lulogicblog.com/2011/06/25/new-york-state-says-i-do-to-gay-marriage-equality-bill/

And I have to admit that I had a great time going this year, the parade was packed with loads of people all enjoying the moment of the parade and the approval of the same-sex marriage bill. It was a moment full of joy and glee for everyone that was at the event.

Below are some of the many photos that I have taken of the parade.

The next photo below gives you an idea of how many people showed up at the event.

And of course…. What’s a gay pride event without all the hot men. :-) Here are a few of them…

And now…. a naked cow girl for those that are into women. ;-)

Shake that ass!!!!!!! ;-)

I guess California has some catching up to do according to this sign.

Local politician Christine Quinn.

And now… More photos of hot looking men. “Oh my….”

Now the next two photos I really like. The story is the following…. A truck was passing by in the parade with an advertisement on it. See the photo below.

I had really liked the photo on the truck ( I guess you can say it was the photographer in me talking…) So I tried to take a better close up photo of it. The challenges were that I was quite a distance away, plus loads of people moving in and out of my view finder. But the one perfect moment came. I had less that a few milliseconds to take a close up shot. And I actually pulled it off. See the next photo and you will see why.

This is one of the many reasons I like photography. Sometimes you get the perfect shot.

So this concludes my photography post of the gay pride parade in New York city. I did take over three-hundred photos of the event and had posted what I thought were the most interesting ones. I hope you enjoyed it. And if you did not make it to the event, then let this be the closest thing to being there.
