HURRICANE IRENE HITS NEW YORK CITY.

So it seems that hurricane Irene has passed through New York City over this past weekend. This is my personal account of what has happened during that time.

Now granted… In all my years of living in New York City. I have never been through a hurricane, it’s one thing to see and watch such an event on television, as it happens in another state. But it’s totally different when it actually happens in your city and or town.

In any such event many people did take the warning seriously and stocked up on grocery items, batteries, bottled water and so on. But to actually find out that parts of New York City and some hospital’s were being evacuated, along with the New York City mass transit system being shut down.

Did make you start to think that the worse might just actually happen. At one point over the weekend the weather did start to change and the sky did start to go dark as if a major thunderstorm was about to pass through. But it was more than just a typical rain storm.

Even at one point I did have to go to one of the few grocery stores to get some last-minute items that I had missed in my first trip out to the store, which by the way I did get. But the second trip out was way different this time. For as I was walking to the store I had noticed that there was NOBODY outside. It was as if I was the only person on the planet Earth just walking around. All you seen was just the neighborhood buildings, cars parked on the street, but no buses or people walking around.

That was just a very odd feeling to go through I think. Then the hurricane started to pass through. Lost of rain and very dark sky’s from above. And reports on the local news about some area’s being flooded. And then the thought hits you from out of nowhere…. “This is actually starting to happen!?!?”

That is when you really start to wonder about the outcome of what was going on. There were reports on the local news about “the worse case situation.” That was constantly being reported, and news reports of the local power being shutdown in some areas to prevent damage.

But as far as I know… That did not happen. I do have to admit that having our mass transit system shutdown for a hurricane was a first. Considering that the system does run 24/7/365 days of the year. Normally if a shutdown does happen it’s usually due to a strike.

But not this time… We was warned many a time that it was going to shut down, and they did just that. Shut it down. You were stranded in any local area with pretty much no way out. And of course it was just to risky to drive anywhere in a car. You was just better off staying indoors.

Some parts of my area were slightly flooded, but it seems not to have been that bad. Thank Goodness for that… Plus it seems not that bad for most of New York as well, it could have been worse. The subway and bus system is starting to get back to normal now, and should be fully up and running soon.

So it seems that we have made it through this event. Let’s just hope that we don’t have to go through this again.

Right now the weather outside is a bright sunny day and the sky is a perfect shade of the color blue, I hope that it does stay this way for a very long time in the days ahead.

S&P DOWNGRADES U.S. CREDIT RATING. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT IT?

So it’s now official. Credit rating agency Standard & Poor’s on Friday downgraded the credit rating of the United States, stripping the world’s largest economy of its prized AAA status. S&P back in July put the United States on “Credit Watch with negative implications” as the debt ceiling debate devolved into partisan bickering.

On my Twitter account I tweeted.

“So… America’s credit rating has dropped. Now the US Gov now knows how the average working person feels.” I was pissed about this in all honesty. Never in America’s history this has ever happened. Grated this NEVER should have happened at all. But is seems that our great leaders (or not so great in this case…) in Washington DC. Have become out of touch with the problems what the average American has to go through in life.

From paying bills, living from pay check to pay check, trying to find employment, interest rates going up and so on. They (The U.S. Government) has finally become “one of the people” by having its credit rating drop. In the world of social media that we now have. I had posted the following tweet on my twitter account.

“S&P downgrades U.S. credit rating. Hum. I might do another blog post about this. What do you all think? Tweet your comments & I may post it.”

After some time I had noticed the hashtag on Twitter #AAAtoAA. From there I had seen many people’s “tweets” about this late night breaking news event. Here are a few… Those that gave me permission to post their Twitter accounts names are visible, Those that did not give permission their Twitter account names are not shown. But I wanted for this post to show the thoughts of millions of American’s about what has just happened.

Here are just a few of the posted comments from Twitter.

“MatosHaile Richard Matos-Haile

As you can see, some people have added humor to what has now become a very bad situation. Along with some people’s true feeling of anger.
If you had the opportunity to tell the President of the United States your thoughts about the matter.
What would you say to him? And to the rest of our government? Use this post to vent your rage or your thoughts about the matter. Let Washington, DC  and the world know how you feel about it.

IN DEFENSE OF MY “I GUESS THE JOKE IS ON HIM” BLOG POST.

Guess who’s back?

If you are a follower of my blog, I have used the image of ‘The Joker” several times in my postings. The last time it was used was when I posted a subject called “I guess the joke is on him.” You can view the post at the following link.

“I guess the joke is on him.”

No we did NOT get back together. However after being accused of telling a “one-sided” story. I feel that I have to explain the post.

The person that accused me of telling a “one-sided” story was Whitney. The person and the subject of the above mentioned post. It all happened like this.

The other night for some odd reason and with no logic to it. (Pardon the pun…) I had thought to text him, just to say “hello.” After a short discussion (that was all done via text message) he had told me that we was still reading my blog after we had separated. But stopped after reading that post. For the record I was glad to find out that he read the post.

Then he made the comment that “the post was a one-sided story of what had happened.”  My reply text to that comment was the following. “Yes… It was one-sided due to the fact that you was M.I.A.”

But in defense of my “I guess the joke is on him” post and another post called “Happy new year, please tell me that what you said was a joke?” That is also based on him. He did NOT take the time to contact me or even defend himself and his actions.

And I think that what brought this comment on what the fact that I told him. “Most of the comments people made about him  (you) were quite “vapid” and I thought that out of respect it was not best to post those comments in public.” As well I did say the following comment right after that statement. The second comment was “It was one of my better postings.”

So overall the following statement that I had made to him. “Most of the comments people made about you were quite “vapid” and I thought that out of respect it was not best to post those comments in public. However… It was one of my better postings actually.”

Seemed to have upset him, and he did mention to me that he was “thick-skinned.” But if that was the case then you should have not brought up the fact that you stopped reading my blog after that post. Or felt upset about it being posted in the first place. I think it’s called “damage control?!?!” If one feels that their reputation was smeared.

I DID NOT smear anyones reputation. I simply told the truth about my side of the story.

Now to defend my statement of. “Yes… It was one-sided due to the fact that you was M.I.A.” Is the fact that he did NOT send me any message via text, or e-mail or even call me to discuss the matter.

So if a person is not going to defend their side of the story or subject, then I have to write what I know as the truth and only the truth. I do have I guess what you can say is… “Bloggers ethics.” And I am not going to lie about any given subject.

Specially if the blog, my blog that is based on my life, events in my life and items going around during my travels as well highlight my photography. Will not be lied about.

And if there is any subject that I am working on for my blog, they are all throughly researched before posting. The one think I will not do to my blog is delete an already posted subject. If I am wrong about any of my posts I WILL correct it or even post a corrected post with the links to show any and all details and history.

Granted… He did not at any time request any one of the two posts to be deleted or retracted. Just incase you was wondering about that. And my reasoning for posting the post was a good source of therapy for me. And I am glad that I did post it for it was a good release for me.

I did not post it to be evil or vindictive. I just wanted to share my thoughts and feelings about what has happened to me at that point in time.

“I have no regrets on any of my postings. I have no regrets about what has happened. I simply told the truth in an open forum. My blog and my photography are a part me and my life. I blog and take photos, there for I am. To understand me via my blog is just another way to get to know me, if we never physically meet in person. For once I have slipped the bonds of earth at life’s end, and journey to the next form of life or after-life. My blog will still be around and represent my legacy.”

With that all said, I hope this clears up any misunderstandings anyone might have had. Until the next time.

OVERHEAD FLY BY AND LANDING.

The other day I was out near La Guardia Airport (LGA) in Queens New York for a work assignment. While on my way to work I had noticed that an airplane was about to land at La Guardia airport. This airplane like the others that flown my way was coming in very low for its landing.

The weather was clear that day so I thought that it was odd for them to come in so low, but it did make for some great videos to be filmed.

If you enjoy flying or airplanes in general, then you might like what I have filmed. I have to admit that a few times I thought the airplanes were going to crash, for they were coming in very close. But I am glad that did not happen.

By the way… You might have noticed or heard in video number one a voice saying “bitch.” The back story to that is the following.

While filming the first video, after the airplane flew past I said out loud. “Son of a bitch!” But it seems that the audio only picked up the word “bitch.” It might have been with all the noise coming from the airplanes jet engines that it drowned out the bulk of my comment.

Enjoy the videos. ;-)
