HOW CAN SOMETHING SO SMALL STOP SOMETHING SO BIG? TURTLES INVADE JFK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.

Now this story just makes me smile. :-) It seems that the other day turtles invaded JFK International Airport. So many of them that they actually had to shut down runway 4 L for a short while to remove them. It’s something that actually happens one or twice a year as female turtles look for a location to lay their eggs. The location actually is a short sandy beach (that is closed to the public…) that is very close to the runway.

And of course safety is an issue when it comes to air travel, so better safe than sorry and risk an accident on the runway.

You would think that with all the media hype about this, that the movie monster Gamera invaded JFK airport.

But at last it was not Gamera. Just simply a few little turtles trying to get across a runway.

But I will say this much about it…. “BRAVO” to the agency known as the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey that manages JFK International airport for they actually have animal control experts on site to handle such a situation.

No turtle or human was harmed during the making of this news story.

And that is the best part about this. Is that nobody was harmed and the turtles lived. I guess the only ones that could complain are the passengers that had flights that gotten delayed for take off. A minor price to pay.

This is just one of those news stories that just has to put a smile on your face. :-)

THE NEW YORK CITY GAY PRIDE PARADE OF 2011.

Now I have to admit that I almost did not go to the parade this year. reason being was that when I covered the event last year I found it do be somewhat of  a problem doing so. But since New York state approved same-sex marriage just two days before the event. I thought it was best to give it another try. You can read about the new same-sex marriage law at the following post.

http://lulogicblog.com/2011/06/25/new-york-state-says-i-do-to-gay-marriage-equality-bill/

And I have to admit that I had a great time going this year, the parade was packed with loads of people all enjoying the moment of the parade and the approval of the same-sex marriage bill. It was a moment full of joy and glee for everyone that was at the event.

Below are some of the many photos that I have taken of the parade.

The next photo below gives you an idea of how many people showed up at the event.

And of course…. What’s a gay pride event without all the hot men. :-) Here are a few of them…

And now…. a naked cow girl for those that are into women. ;-)

Shake that ass!!!!!!! ;-)

I guess California has some catching up to do according to this sign.

Local politician Christine Quinn.

And now… More photos of hot looking men. “Oh my….”

Now the next two photos I really like. The story is the following…. A truck was passing by in the parade with an advertisement on it. See the photo below.

I had really liked the photo on the truck ( I guess you can say it was the photographer in me talking…) So I tried to take a better close up photo of it. The challenges were that I was quite a distance away, plus loads of people moving in and out of my view finder. But the one perfect moment came. I had less that a few milliseconds to take a close up shot. And I actually pulled it off. See the next photo and you will see why.

This is one of the many reasons I like photography. Sometimes you get the perfect shot.

So this concludes my photography post of the gay pride parade in New York city. I did take over three-hundred photos of the event and had posted what I thought were the most interesting ones. I hope you enjoyed it. And if you did not make it to the event, then let this be the closest thing to being there.

NEW YORK STATE SAYS “I DO” TO GAY MARRIAGE EQUALITY BILL.

In a historic vote, the New York State Senate passed the marriage equality bill Friday, making New York state the sixth and most populous state to offer civil marriage for same-sex couples. History has been made not only in New York city, my home town, but in the entire state itself.

The New York senate is the first Republican-controlled legislative body to pass a marriage equality bill. Once again history was made! I guess that is why New York state is called the “empire state.”

The marriage equality law will take effect 30 days after being signed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. New York state is home to almost 20 million people and the nation’s largest city, New York will double the number of Americans living in a state with marriage equality and bring attention to the latest chapter in the gay rights movement.Currently, five states — Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont and New Hampshire — and the District of Columbia grant same-sex marriage licenses.

Activists on both sides of the issue gathered in the state capitol, Albany. They chanted opposing slogans, petitioning for either “marriage equality” or yelling “one man, one woman” in defense of the institution’s traditional definition. But once the bill passed chants of “USA, USA, USA…” were heard throughout the senate chamber.

This I feel is a major victory in gay rights. In New York, he can now marry he. And she can marry she. This is the America we should all hope for.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who courted Republican state senators to approve the bill, called the vote a “historic triumph for equality and freedom.”

Is this progress? My answer is “Yes… This is progress.” And may this historic vote and process tell other states to do the same thing as well.

The effects of the law could be felt well beyond New York: Unlike Massachusetts, which pioneered gay marriage in 2004, New York has no residency requirement for obtaining a marriage license, meaning the state could become a magnet for gay couples across the country who want to have a wedding in Central Park, the Hamptons, the romantic Hudson Valley or that honeymoon hot spot, Niagara Falls.

While court challenges in New York are all but certain, the state unlike California makes it difficult for the voters to repeal the laws at the ballot box. Changing the law would require a constitutional convention, which is a very long drawn out process.

But that is not going to happen any time soon I think. What I do find to be funny is the fact that the New York state same-sex marriage vote was covered for over sixty (60) plus minutes by MSNBC & CNN. It was covered for only 2 minutes by Fox News.

Then again… That is Fox’s typical fear of change in life.

So with that all said I say “bravo” to the New York State Senate. I am very happy and proud to be a member of this great state and city that I live in.

I guess that is why New York state is called the empire state. :-)

A FEW HOURS AT JFK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT.

One of the few things I like about my new job is the fact that I get to travel all over New York City. And it’s mostly to places that I would never really go to. So I have to admit that when I first got the assignment to go out to JFK airport that I was a little hesitant at first. Reason being was the fact that I would have been working in an area of JFK airport that was nothing more than a service road that only workers of the airport use.

Turns out I was wrong… Not the fact that it was a service road in the middle of nowhere. But the fact that I was less than about three thousand feet (give or take…) from one of the runways. And that fact alone was great! For I do like travel and flight and the fact that I was up close to passenger jet plans made it all the more sweeter for me.

So I thought to pull out my smart phone and take a few photos of the planes that I had seen out there. I really had a blast out there that day, figuratively and literary. What I mean by that was the fact that at one point while I was out there I was blown away by high gust of winds, not by the weather mind you, but by the thrust of the jet’s engines that were on the runway getting ready for take off. But I was a safe distance away from the jet’s so no harm at all came to me. But the high winds was fun…. Minus the fumes from the jet exhausts of course.

Below are the photos that I have taken from that day…. Yea… these jet’s are HUGE!

The photo above was taken just after the sun had set, it was of a 747 jumbo jet Cathy Pacific Cargo jumbo jet getting ready for take off.

The photo above was of an American Airlines jet getting ready for its flight, the lighting was from the sunset that gave the orange glow in the sky that gave this photo its glow.

The same thing for the above photo as well the glow from the sunset gave this 747 a glow as well.

Above is another photo of the same Virgin Atlantic Jet getting into position of the runway for take off.

Now for the photo above I just wanted to show just how far away I was from these jets that were in the airport. I find it odd that the all the Air France jets that I have seen looked all clean and white.

Now the next three photos are my personal favorite photos. There are of a British Airways 747 jumbo jet taxiing off the runway on its way to the terminal. Yea… This was HUGE!!!! I guess you can tell by this post that I do have a “thing” for a 747 jumbo jet. :-)

I have to admit that I do forget from time to time just how big these jets are… But as you can tell from the photos they are quite large. Not only the 747, but  all the other jets as well. So there concludes my photography post. If you enjoy planes and flight then I hope that these photos do put a smile on your face. I know I had one when I took the pictures. :-)
