THE FIRST BLIZZARD OF 2010 IN NEW YORK CITY.

I have wanted to take photos of the first snow storm for the longest time now, and now I have done so. I had gone to the DUMBO area of Brooklyn and had taken some photos of the general area and the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges.

The conditions are close to white-out conditions I actually could not see Manhattan from across the river, and the temperature was in the mid twenties when I had taken these photos.

But I have to admit it was fun and worth it, during my trip outside I did find a few other photographers taking photos as well, just when I thought I was nuts doing so I was glad to see other people doing the same thing I was doing too.

But I really did have fun out there in the snow. Here are some of the photos that I have taken of the winter event.

If you look closely at the photo below you can see the Brooklyn Bridge in white-out conditions during the snow storm.

Yes… I found a Christmas tree too.

In the following photo you can see the Brooklyn Bridge, but not lower Manhattan during the snow storm.

MY TOP POST OF 2010.

Since everybody seems to be doing their year-end top 10s, I figured I’d jump on the bandwagon. I’m posting the posts from 2010 that I thought were the best postings I have written and brought the most interest to people.

If you are reading this post and seeing that it’s more than a total of ten then “Yes” you are correct it is more than ten, but the post below did mean so much to me that I just could not count them out from the list.

They are in no particular order for it seems that placing them is such an order was a hard thing for me to do since I did like them all.

Below are my favorite posts from this year.

THE LUNAR ECLIPSE OF DECEMBER 21, 2010.

The last time I had seen a lunar eclipse what a few years back, I can’t recall the exact year. But from what I do remember it was late in the year around winter time. I was in Downtown Brooklyn walking home and for some odd reason I just looked up and noticed the moon disappear from the sky. I did not have a camera at that time or my blog.

But I had made a mental note back then to try to photograph the eclipse the next time it comes around. And last night I did just that. I have to admit that it was a learning experience. For everything that can go wrong did go wrong.

From technical problems with the camera, the cause of the problems was from the cold weather to high winds last night and freezing temperatures. When a cameras operation manual says

Operating conditions: Temperature: 0 C – +40 C / +32 F – +104 F

Believe the warning! Trust me on this!  The camera would give false power readings; you could not use any of the program settings I had set for it. Or it would just change the setting all by itself. An excessive shutter speed lag and problems with auto focus and manual focus as well. Granted the temperature last night go to be around 19 degrees F last night way below the cameras limits.

Now I know you might be asking “Would I use the camera again?” My answer is “yes” the reason is the fact that I did push the camera to its limits. And to be honest I have an idea now of what to expect for the winter season and first snow fall.

Then of course there is the moon itself. After all it’s a moving target in the sky when you are trying to photograph it. Before the lunar eclipse I did do test photos and I gave all my equipment a system review just to make sure that all components were working correctly.

But it still did not prepare me for what was to come later that night. I was going through my own version of the lunar mission Apollo thirteen.

If you recall your history the lunar mission failed due to a catastrophic system failure. We all hear the stories of how things and people act differently under a full moon, and that was the case for me the other night.

But overall I got what I wanted and that was pictures of the lunar eclipse. And like I had mentioned it was a learning experience for me. The photos were taken last night during the time of 12:30 am to around 4:30 am EST. a few test photos were taken at around 5:50 pm just as the moon was starting to rise over the horizon, some of the photos might seem blurry and that was due to the high winds and focus along with auto focus systems failing due to the very cold temperatures.  Below are the photos of the event. And maybe the next time around I will have a better idea of what to expect in similar conditions.

The photo below is one of the test photos taken at 5:50 pm EST just as the moon was starting to rise.

The remaining photos below are from the lunar eclipse event from the night.

The photo above was taken at 7:03 pm EST.

This photo above was taken at 12:37 am EST the official start of the eclipse cycle. You will notice that the moon seem brighter at this point in time.

You will notice in the photo above by the upper left corner of the moon that the eclipse is beginning to start, this photo was taken at 1:34 am EST.

At 2:09am EST the moon is no longer a full moon as you can see from the photo above.

At 2:26 am EST the moon above is almost gone.

Now this photo above you can just barely see the moon (Look closely… You can see a very small part of it.) just before the change of color, this photo was taken at 2:38 am EST

And now the moment you have been waiting for the eclipse of the moon with the change of color. The time was 2:39 am EST when this photo below was taken. For this photo I actually had to stop using the flash in order to capture the moon.

At 2:41 am EST according to NASA the full eclipse was in full effect the photo below was taken at that exact moment.

At 3:56 am EST you will see below that the normal color of the moon is starting to come back. You will start to notice the white color of the moon near the top of it.

At a time of 3:57 am EST I thought not to use a flash for the photo below, just so that you can see the curve of the moon as the eclipse was starting to end.

As you can see from the photo above, the moon is starting to return. This photo was taken at 4:05 am EST

Now the next two photos below I find every interesting, the first photo was taken with no flash and you can see that the moon at this post is half its original color. The second photo taken with a flash and you can not see the lower part of the moon with the naked eye. The time was around 4:19 am EST.

From the photo below you can see that the moon is almost back to normal. The time was around 4:41 am EST The image blow is the reflection of the moon that was caught in the image.

And the final image below is just when the moon fully returns. You will notice by the lower right of the moon has a slight cure to it.This photo was taken at 4:58 am EST.

At that point I thought I have gotten all the photos I needed. And proceeded to pack my gear and call it a night. An event such as this does not come by often, but it was worth every minute of it.

TIME’S MAN OF THE YEAR IS WHO? WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY THINKING!

In TIME’s Person of the year poll, Julian Assange of Wikileaks received 382,000 votes – Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook received 18,000 – only 20 times less! This just proves that one again our vote does not matter. What is the point of having an on-line vote if the total or outcome is going to be changed by the people that started the voting process?

Julian Assange of Wikileaks showed us all the facts of what is going on in the world that we may never know. From the true dark side of war to the back room deals that government has made.

What has Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook done for the world? If you ask me he made a cute little on-line phone book that might invade your personal privacy by sharing your personal details for identity theft. And telling potential criminals that “I am not home, go ahead and rob the place I live in.”

Julian Assange has shown us that the world needs to be more secure with its on-line information. And that we all need to be safe in what we need to do on-line. When I had seen the TIME cover below

I just known it was the Kiss of death, so close to the man of the year award that this is like saying “Sorry, but this cover is second place for you.”

TIME had opt out on highlighting what is truly going on in the world. Julian Assange showed us all what is going on in the world, true freedom of speech if you ask me. Now some people might disagree with what I just said, and I am totally fine with that. For we all have the right to voice our thoughts.

And for this post any and all comments will be posted and unedited. So if you are willing share your thoughts with the world with what I have just mentioned above, feel free to do so.

AFTER A FEW BAD DAYS, I FINALLY HAVE ONE GOOD MOMENT.

Over the past few days I have been in a depressive funk, I have no drive to do anything and I have been feeling somewhat disoriented. I am not sure what the cause of it is, maybe depression or the fact that the days have become shorter.

But I feel that I have lost my drive to do anything. Then today in the mail I had gotten my certificate of copyright for the photographs entitled “Smokestack.” And that did put me in a very good mood and it somewhat gave me the drive to work on some more of my photography which I have to admit has helped me in the past with my depression.

It’s quite an empowering feeling when you get the notice that one of your works is officially copyrighted. And after the past few days of working on my blog and my photography with some results that have not gone well, I am glad that I did get the paperwork for a past project that I worked on.

For I feel that it does give me a new drive to work on my photography, one of the few things nowadays that helps me relax and be at peace with myself. So even if the past few days have not been good for me, seeing a small ray of light, the light of hope and bliss does make things just a little better for me. I only hope for more days of joy.

IF IT’S NOT BROKE, THEN I DON’T NEED TO FIX IT.

Over the past few days I have thought to revamp my website. http://lulogicblog.com/ I wanted to try to promote my photography and use the new design of the website to possibly highlight the photos on the site, but after spending days of searching for a new theme, I actually had no luck with the change.

It turns out that I am better off with the current design of my site. If you notice when you go to the site I did add a digital snow fall to celebrate the winter season. I do enjoy the snow and I am planning on taking some great photos of New York in the winter for I feel that it’s one of the best times to take pictures of the city.

I had made adjustments to my right sidebar and had updated my favorite’s photo page with some new images. But I was still not happy with that for I totally wanted to revamp the site. But it seems that I just ended up making some minor changes but enough to somewhat make a difference. And on top of all this WordPress the company that supports my website has been having problems as well, which made it all the more frustrating.

After spending quite some time working on my site I just thought that my website will be fine in its current form. So I will keep the same format for now and hope for the best. I just hope that the minor adjustment will work out for me, they are not much, but they do matter to me.

WHY YOU NASTY LITTLE FREAK!

Ok… I have to admit that I have a foot fetish. Everyone who knows me will tell you that this is a fact. I have a thing for nice, very well-kept feet. I find it funny as a photographer how some people especially in the bedroom are willing to open up and let me take photos of them.

Let’s just say this was the afterglow of good sex, for some people it’s kissing and cuddling, but in my case… or I should say at the moment the other person involved wanted me to take photos of them. Once I had seen the feet, it was the only body part that I wanted to take photos of.

The pictures are I guess you can say my “afterglow” so with not giving much the details of what happened in the bed room here are the photos. They were taken on the fly with no preparation which gives the pictures a more natural feel to them. Talk about all natural… No prep work before the pictures were taken, I just took the camera and started shooting away. Here are the photos.

I have to admit this is now officially my weirdest and oddest blog posting. *giggle*

WIKILEAKS

Wiki-who? Wiki-huh? Wiki-what what?? We all have heard of it.

You might have checked out the website, don’t lie… you know you did. We all know the person.

Mr. Julian “I have a dirty little secret to tell you” Assange.

You have seen all the news about him.

But the big question is the following. “Is this man and his website a hero for exposing secrets, or a man with a grudge?” If this is a grudge with the world then it’s the mother of all gripes. Or is he just trying to keep us all informed about what is going on in the world behind closed doors?

A world that only top officials have access to, a world that Julian Assange seems to have the keys to open the door with via leaked documents, but is this a good or a bad thing to do? I have to admit that I am totally fascinated with him and what he has done, but does it make it right?

Do we all want to know what is going on with governments and there operations? Does the world need to know the secret black ops dealings of governments?  If anything he has shown us all that our world governments are working.

Working in a way that would be fitting of a Tom Clancy novel is one way to look at it. But does this take freedom of speech to its limits? Or is this the freedom of speech that we all have been looking for? You either like him or hate him. Where does it all end? What will be his mark on history? What will be his legacy? So many questions that we may never know the answer to them at this time. I have been following this for some time now and I just keep wondering when will all this end and how far can he go doing all that he has done. Hollywood could not even write such a story, this is one story that has no script, but the plot keeps getting better and better as the days go on.

So it like I said before, you either like him or hate him for what he has done. Can we all learn from this? Who knows…? Does all that he has done teach us something new about keeping our thoughts private and better internet security? What is the lesson learned from all this?

How come I have a feeling he will be voted as Time magazines man of the year? I could be wrong about that of course, but it does make one wonder. What are my thoughts about all this? It’s hard to say for I am just taking a back seat to all this and watching how this all unfolds. What do you think about Wikileaks?

After all we all have the right to speak our minds and share our thoughts.

TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY, ANOTHER YEAR HAS PASSED.

On some years I welcome my birthday with open arms. Other years I might treat it like another regular day. This year I am just glad to have made it this far once again.
