HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND WELCOME HOME.

The above title millions of people will hear once they get to their holiday destination. For many of us will travel home for the holiday and if not then during the Christmas season. Home means many different things to people, a fond memory of their childhood, or maybe a memory of a simpler time in one’s life.

Everyone’s thought is different and unique as to what exactly home means to them. During my travels one day in Brooklyn, New York I had come across some classic and rustic places that some people actually call home.

Now if you never been to New York City you would think it’s the land of giant skyscrapers and multimillion dollar apartments and brownstone buildings. But actually there are a few areas in New York City that have residences that look like that they were frozen in time.

There for giving it a classic look in a land of modern progression. Below are some photos that I have taken of these houses that have that rustic look to them. And to some people that would be considered the place they grew up in.

So taking a twist on the statement, “Going home for the holidays.” Here is a photographic tribute to what some people might be coming home to.

E=MC2 THE NEW MODERN DAY EQUIVLANCE STILL HOLDS TRUE.

Back on March 11, 2010 I posted on my blog a post entitled “E=MC2 THE NEW MODERN DAY EQUIVLANCE.” And with the economy still being the same way today I thought to repost it for it still holds true I think. Below is the original post.

E=MC2 THE NEW MODERN DAY EQUIVLANCE.

One of the many things that Albert Einstein is best known for is his formula on Mass-energy equivalence.   Better known as E=MC2. When you break it down if I recall physics correctly, it translates to the following, energy (E) equals mass (M) constant (C) to the second power (2).

If you are unemployed like myself, E=MC2 can mean the following.

E is Employment and equals Money (M) a Career (C) and square better known as the number two (2) in the formula can be translated as a second chance at life. Or a new start at life after a short, or long period of being unemployed.

For as we all know once a person starts employment and is working they will receive a paycheck for the work that they do. They will have a job or a career that they will enjoy doing, and a second chance at life after a period of wondering how they were going to pay their bills and live life on a daily basis.

This to me can be the new modern-day equivalent of the “physics of unemployment” if you want to call it that.

I SUPPORT THE TSA BODY SCANNERS AND PAT DOWNS.

Its comments like the one made below that make we wonder about people sometimes.

In New York, City Councilman David Greenfield (D-Brooklyn) introduced a bill this week that would ban X-ray scanners that see through clothes.

“We have turned TSA screeners at our airports into Peeping Toms for no legitimate reason,” he said.

You can see the comment at.:

TSA comes under scrutiny

For the record I would feel much safer being checked before getting on a flight, right along with everyone else. Is it a hassle? I would say “Yes, but it’s worth It.” The TSA I feel is doing its best to protect us from terrorist.

People that talk about “their junk” if they have a problem with it then don’t fly. Take a train or rent a car to get where you need to go. For complaining about it they support the terrorist, by saying “go ahead and bomb a plane, just don’t bomb my flight.”

It’s damned if you do and damned if you don’t if you can’t protect the people who are traveling. When aviation first started one could buy a ticket at the airport and just get on a flight without being checked out. But the times have changed now.

These procedures are here to protect us and keep everyone safe. Now I know that not everyone is going to agree with what I have said. And that is totally fine with me. But don’t you want yourself and your loved ones to be safe while traveling? I do…

When we take a road trip we fasten our seat belts so that we don’t get seriously hurt in a car accident. When traveling or walking the streets of a city or place we never been in we all try to be aware of our surroundings as a way to protect ourselves from being robbed or maybe even hurt by a stranger. So why should this be any different?

Then of course God forbid if something does happen on a flight and people get killed. Peoples first thought would be TSA did not do its job. But if we all complain about the pat downs and body scans then we are not letting the TSA do their job to protect us.

These are my thoughts about the subject, what do you think about it?

I HAVE ONLY EIGHT WEEKS LEFT.

As of this week I have only eight weeks of unemployment left. When I think about it I say to myself “the time has flown” for it feels like it was just yesterday that I originally filed for unemployment. Granted I have been looking for new work, but I just have not found any.

So now I am doing what I have been doing for some time now, and that is to pay my bills in advance so that I don’t have to worry about paying them for a few months after the money runs out. It has not been easy to do so for something comes up once in a while that might change my payment plans. But I do make an effort to get it done.

I would like to think that congress would extend unemployment benefits but as we all know that is not going to happen and I really can’t depend on that ever happening. So I will need to pick up my efforts and see if I can pay off most of my bills in advance and as well still look for work to see if I can find some sort of employment.

I just hope that if I do find some sort of work that the pay will be something I can work with, I really don’t want to take a job out of desperation only to end up not being happy with the new job if and when I get one.

Granted it not about pride, but thinking in advance about saving money, paying bills and being able to live my life as we all do. And that is something that I must take into consideration. Now I would not consider this blog post a “rant” but more like venting my thoughts.

And with the holidays coming up once again there will be no gifts to family members, but at least they understand about it all, and it’s good that they do so. And my running joke to friends is. “Be lucky that I even e-mailed you a holiday card.”

So the next few weeks will be interesting in my life, let’s see what happens next. I might get lucky and find some work, or I may not find anything in time. I will not know until I cross that bridge I can only hope and try for the best.

At this point I am not stressed, but concerned. For planning what I have to do next in life I feel must be exact and not waver. At this point all I can say to myself is “best of luck and try my best.” For not trying is just another form of failure I feel and I am not about to fail.

THE ING NEW YORK CITY MARATHON.

The New York City marathon is one of the many events in New York that I enjoy checking out. I did not check it out last year for I was helping a very good friend of mine pack for his move to Uganda Africa. Since he needed help packing for his move I really did not mind missing the event last year.

For there is always the next year to check it out again, and that is what I did this time around. I had spent the week before preparing to photograph the event by checking my camera equipment and of course making sure that my batteries were fully charged for, one thing I hate to do is replace batteries in the middle of photographing an event.

Matter of fact I had to do so during the Halloween parade. So I made it a point to make sure that I did not have to do it again this time around. And of course I had to find out what the weather was going to be like this past Sunday, for I was planning to wake up early that day to start getting ready for the event.

I woke up at six in the morning and that was a challenge to do for the night before I was up very late talking to an old friend of mines on the phone as well since I am not currently working and receiving unemployment it has been a while since I have woken up that early. For when I was working I use to wake up at that time to get ready for work, the only thing that was in my favor was the fact that the clocks were turned back an hour that weekend so it did somewhat give me an extra hour to sleep.

Once I was fully ready I walked over to the area that I wanted to be at for the marathon, it was a nice walk and actually I do enjoy long walks. The air was cool and crisp that morning and traffic was minimal due to the marathon so some streets were closed to cars and traffic.

Once I was there I found what I thought was a good location to photograph the marathon. One of the first things that I have noticed once I was there was the fact that the barricades normally used to prevent people from entering the street as the runners were going by were not there. I think the lack of the barricades was due to budget cuts the city has made over the past year. But it did not seem to affect the runners going by.

One thing I will say about photographing the marathon is that it was like trying to take photos of a herd of wild animals running directly at you in a stampede. It was a challenge but a good challenge, granted if I was taking photos of wild animals in a stampede I think I would just run for the hills to safety. I will leave photographing wild animals to the experts. And trust me that comment I made was a complement to people who do just that for a living.

Here are the photos that I have taken of the marathon, so if you miss the event this will be the next best thing to being there.

DO I DARE CROSS THAT LINE?

Over the weekend I had one of my “on-line encounters” where someone tried to make a pass at me and they sent an e-mail doing so expressing their interest. The only difference with this encounter is the fact that I know this person and we do have somewhat of a history together a few years back.

It was more like that we flirted with each other and never expressed our interest with one another. Well… That changed over the weekend and we did actually did tell our interest in possibility dating each other. Once he discovered who I was we exchanged phone number and a phone call was made to talk about the subject further.

It was actually a good phone conversation, as we caught up on what was going on with us and shared our thoughts about taking it further if we did actually date. The only question now is. “Do we actually pursue this?”

For dating him would be nice, and interesting if anything but at the same time just might wreck a friendship.

We were planning on meeting over the weekend but he changed his mind for there were a few items he wanted to think about before meeting. And I am totally fine with that for it does give me a chance to think things over as well.

Its one thing to be a person’s friend, but it’s totally another thing if you start to date them. As well if things don’t go according to plan do we go back to just being friends? Or do we just end up no longer speaking to each other?

Personally I would hate to lose a friend so this is something that we should talk about. And I am interested and somewhat fascinated in what they would say about that issue. And of course I am willing to take that risk, but it’s a risk that I will explore with caution.

So once we do meet up I will have a better idea on what to do next. I am in no rush to be dating anyone; at this point in my life I will just take it one step at a time. Overall it could be a good thing or a bad thing. Also I am sure there will be a part two to this story. And as I always say. “Nothing is impossible unless you don’t try it.” So with that all said let’s see what happens next with us. One thing is certain… Our face to face meeting about all this if and when it does happen will make for a very good and deep conversation.

YAHOO!!!

Some time ago if you remember I posted on the photography section of my blog a project that I called “Black Shadow.” You can see the post via this link if you don’t recall or have not seen it yet. http://lulogicblog.com/2010/10/08/black-shadow/

I am happy to mention that I finally got the certificate of copyright for this project from the United States copyright office, located at http://www.copyright.gov/ One of the reasons why I had copyrighted this was that I really liked how the final product came out and to some extent wanted to secure it as being a work of art as being one of mines that I had created.

Taking the time to review the copyright process and making sure that I would not get rejected I finally got the certificate in the mail late today. I have to admit that I was hoping to get the approval and it turns out that I actually did, so I am very happy about that.

Once I found out I called a few friends to tell them the good news and I got the congratulations from them. And I spent most of the night in a good mood because of this for this was something that I always wanted to do and I have finally done so.

I guess you can say that I can scratch that off my bucket list now. I do have other photography items being copyrighted at this moment and I am just waiting for approval at this point, but I am very glad that my favorite one so far “Black Shadow” is officially approved.

I guess that now makes me a photographer with copyrighted work. (Big smile) I will be looking forward to submitting more of my work in the near future, but this is a start for now I think. At one point I thought about going out to a bar to celebrate, however I have to wake up early on Sunday to go do some photography of the New York City marathon for it’s an event I want to check out like I have done in past years.

Maybe later in the day or week I will go to a bar to celebrate, or just walk around with a stupid grin on my face for a few days. (Giggle) Either way I still will be happy, for I am just glad that I finally did one of the many things that I have always wanted to do in life.

SMOKESTACK

Introduction:

One of the funny things about photography I find is the fact that a person such as myself can take many photos and not post them online right away, or in some cases not at all. This is one of those moments. Back in September I had taken some photos of a giant smokestack that was located in a power plant in DUMBO Brooklyn.

It was a huge structure, very tall and somewhat majestic you can say. The height of it was one of the reasons I had taken the photo of it. Once I had gotten home and have taken the time to review the photos I was very happy with the results.

For the lighting was just before sunset that day and it really brought out the colors in the photograph. Deeper blues, brighter orange and even a passionate gray tone as well. The black and white photos that I have taken too came out with such intensity.

No editing at all was done to the photos. This is in its raw form you can say. The bright colors were due to the chrome film setting I used on my digital camera and the others were done in standard black and white with no post edit as well.

But the colors of each of the photos are the main reason I wanted to post and share this. For I think it could never be produced again even if I tried. And unlike writing a book or making a film, in photography you have only one chance to take a perfect photo. There is no edit or do over, for once the moment is gone it is gone forever.

For what it’s worth, I do like the images below and glad that I was finally able to post them.

A NIGHT SPENT AT THE NEW YORK CITY HALLOWEEN PARADE.

Last night I had gone to the New York City Halloween parade. I have not been there for a past few years, but thought to go this time around. It’s usually a fun event to go to, people of all ages dressed in costume, local bars with drink specials and of course the parade itself.

The parade itself ran a much shorter route than in years past due to city budget cuts with NYPD over time cost. Local news did report beforehand that the route would be shorter because of this. And I have to admit it did affect the parade.

The streets were over crowded with people, now that is normal with any parade, but in this case you were barely able to move around in the crowds like previous years before. Where I originally planned to stand to take photos turned out this year not to be a good location due to the overcrowding of people there so I ended up on one of the local side streets to take photos of the event.

Some of the costumes worn by people at the event were typical ones you might see for Halloween, such as Wonder Woman, Superman and so on. Plus a few that did catch my attention and would not be considered a typical costume. You will see from some of the photos below.

With that said… He are my photos of the adventures I had at the Halloween Parade.
