I am not kidding about the above title. This actually happened. A major store was closed due to bed bugs. You can even view the story at the following link.

Actually I find this disturbing that a major clothing store in SoHo New York was shut down due to an infestation of bed bugs. The last thing anyone wants is to have bed bugs in their home. It’s one thing to be out in the woods or a park and get them. But from a shopping trip? What the hell? It makes one wonder how clean the store was or come to think of it. “Where was the clothes delivered from before they was sold to people?”
New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene have a link about bed bugs on their website as well. http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/vector/vector-faq1.shtml And actually there has been a major infestation of them in New York State. Along with the usual rat problem in New York City and the seasonal West Nile virus from mosquito’s during the summer time. One has to worry about bed bugs now?
And actually in New York City they have gone to great lengths to fix the rat and mosquito problem. And growing up in New York as a kid the rat problem was very bad. But has been worked on over the last few years to the point that you really don’t see that many of them now.
But what about the tourist that have visited the city and have gone into that store, shopped there and are now back home in their home state? They might have just transferred bed bugs to their home? And are left wondering how this happened?
To be honest, hearing and reading this story makes my skin crawl. Pardon the “pun.” But it does. Now of course the question is how long did the store know about this before the city shut them down? It is such a shame that this has to happen and in all my years living here this is the first time I have ever heard of a major store closing because of it.
So I guess the next time I go shopping for clothes I will need to bring a can of bug spray with me. Or maybe just stick to shopping on-line. Of course I am sure within the next few days or weeks someone is going to sue. So if anyone has shopped there recently return your items that you purchased or have them washed and cleaned. Personally I would just burn the items myself, I think that will be the safest thing to do.
